The Nokrek National Park is located in Tura, Meghalaya started in 1997. The park is located near the William Nagar city and the area comes under the region of West Garo Hills district. One more famous tourist spot is situated near the park is Rongbang Dare Water Fall where people also came to visit this place.

Establishment:

The foundation of the park is done earlier in the year of 1986 but it came under the directory of Biosphere Reserve in the year 2009.

Area:

The park is not spread over very large area, it only covers the 47.48 km2 area of the Tura peak region. The park is surrounded by the major rivers of the Garo hills.T he whole area of the park is covered with mountains and rocks like amphibolites, granulites  and others.

Famous for:

The park is mainly famous for the existence of Red Panda which is found very rarely in some areas of the country. It consist of large number of flora and fauna. Some unique wildlife are seen here like Stump-tailed macaque and Pig-tailed macaque. Apart from this the commonly found wildlife such as mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds are found here.

How to Reach:
If you want to go by train then you have to reach Guwahati railway station from where many train routes are well connected with different cities. The station is approx 155 km from the park which will took only 3 hours to reach the destination. The flight is also available up to Guwahati Airport which is well connected with major cities and it is at a distance of 170 km. The easiest way is to go by road from William Nagar city which is at a distance of only 15 km from the park.

Best Time to Visit:

As the area is covered with grasslands and forests having large number of trees, the annual rainfall is very high during the rainy season i.e. the time from June to September. Except these months you can visit any month in a year from October to May.
